Productivity is up and real wages are down, but humans are still in the game.
Well done! I’m a professional Japanese to English translator with over 25 years of experience, specializing in financial documents. I think this is the best article I have read on the topic of AI impacting the translation profession. I would only add an analogy that the translation market is like the restaurant market, where the high end of the market (farm to table, local sourcing of ingredients with close relationship’s with suppliers / high value, high risk content like finance, legal and medical) is less threatened than the low end of the market (fast food / low value, low risk content like product reviews, customer support, subtitling). A human translator will always be in the loop where significant money is on the line and the translation has to be accurate.
